15 Quotes About Positive Self-Talk

Quote by Oprah Winfrey

I think all too often people think that positive people are only the people that are smiling all the time and have the right thing to say and have it all figured out at all times. This couldn't be farther from the case. The thing about positive people (and in a lot of senses successful people) is that these people are masters of creating a positive internal dialogue. It's the internal dialogue that dictates what is happening on the outside. If you are speaking positively internally, there's almost no way that this will not translate on the external. The same thing with negative internal talk: it will inevitably translate into your external being as well. It's all about the internal work and talk that we carry into this world and pass on to others. My mom used to say this to me all the time, and unfortunately it took a long time for me to really grasp this concept.

In the same vein, when I was younger I never understood those always-happy-smiley people. But it must be something inside of them that is keeping that smile on their face. Fight through the pain, fake it 'til you make it, and grin and bear it: those are all difficult things to achieve without some sort of positive internal self talk.

I am on this journey, too, so I figured I'd share some quotes that sum up what I am attempting to get across. I find that some of the most successful people in life tend to give the same advice and/or words of wisdom. There are universal laws all around us, even when it comes to self care.

Brain wave tests prove that when we use positive words, our "feel good" hormones flow. Positive self-talk releases endorphins and serotonin in our brain, which then flow throughout our body, making us feel good. These neurotransmitters stop flowing when we use negative words.

- Zig Ziglar

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

- Marianne Williamson

If you hear a voice within you saying, You are not a painter, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.

- Vincent Van Gogh

Love yourself first and everything less falls in line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.
